How to distinguish quartz glass ?

Where is the difference between quartz glass and ordinary glass? To be precise, glass is amorphous, while quartz is crystal. In the amorphous isotropy, the optical properties of the crystals are directional - some of them have a large refractive index and some are small - which determines that the crystal material can not be used as an optical material. Quartz glass has all the properties of glass, except that SiO2 has no other ingredients, and its density is smaller than that of other glass and feels lighter.

The special glass made of silica glass for quartz glass has higher hardness and transparency.
There are two very simple ways to distinguish quartz glass from ordinary glass.

1. color: silica glass is a single component of silica glass, so it must be colorless. Ordinary glass is usually a bit of color.

2. flame calcination: hydrogen oxygen flame can be calcined at temperatures above one thousand degrees.

Because of the particularity of quartz glass, there are the following items in use.

   1.quartz glass products are valuable materials. They must be handled gently and carefully.
   2. all kinds of quartz glass have a maximum use temperature, should not exceed this temperature when used, otherwise crystallization or softening will deform.
   3. Quartz glass for high temperature use must be cleaned before use. It can be soaked in 10% hydrofluoric acid or lotion, then washed with high pure water or treated with alcohol. Thin gloves should be worn during operation, and quartz glass is not allowed to be touched directly by hand.
   4. Continuous use of quartz glass products at high temperature is beneficial to prolonging the life of quartz glass and improving the temperature resistance. Conversely, the use of quartz glass products at a high temperature is limited.
   5. although quartz glass material has extremely high thermal stability, it can withstand severe temperature sudden changes. However, due to the difference of residual strain and product shape, the thermal stability of the product should be noted when used.
